New project on cantonal strategies for the development of Swiss metropolitan areas
August 2006: A new project in Module 2 analyzes the experiences made in the formulation and implementation of metropolitan strategies in Swiss cantons. The goal is to shed light on these strategies in order to improve decision-making on metropolitan development in Switzerland in the future.
The new project 5a "Cantonal strategies for the development of metropolitan areas: potential and limits" is headed by Daniel Kübler of the University of Zurich and financed by the "Tripartite Agglomerationskonferenz" (the Conference of the Swiss Confederation, the cantons and cities). It will identify the substantive and organizational profiles of cantonal metropolitan strategies and the conditions that frame their elaboration by studying five cantons. The scientific results will be published in a report to the Conference in order to serve as a decision-making aid for developing new structures and institutions for improving cooperation between Swiss metropolitan areas.
